Sander is a moisture consultant from the Antwerp region with roots in Ekeren who, besides a good padel match, can enjoy the summer sun in his garden during a barbecue. We asked Sander how his career at DryPlan started and what his craziest moisture stories are. You can get to know Sander better in the interview below.
Hi Sander, you work as a moisture consultant at DryPlan, how did you start that adventure?
I came across DryPlan through an advertisement, the company immediately appealed to me so I applied for an open position. Tim, our sales manager, then called me and invited me for an interview. When I was talking to Glenn, the manager, I immediately noticed how much knowledge he has about moisture problems. My first impression about the colleagues was top-notch, and shortly thereafter I started as a consultant.
Always nice to start on a positive and spontaneous note. What did you do before working at DryPlan?
Before working at DryPlan, I was a consultant for charging stations. Because I wasn't getting enough satisfaction from the solutions I was selling then and wanted to help more people, a career in the moisture control industry was right up my alley. And why exactly did I start at DryPlan? I want to work in a company that has a good name and I want to stand 100% behind the products and service I propose to the customer.
Then you have indeed come to the right place at DryPlan! And from where did the specific interest in the moisture control industry come from?
The interest has grown by getting into the business, the longer I work at DryPlan and the more cases I encounter, the harder my interest grows. It is enormously fascinating to solve a visible problem, often with a partially invisible cause, once and for all. Moisture problems can be enormously damaging to health, reduce the value of a home and can have long-term adverse consequences. To master all that perfectly and be able to help people interests me immensely.
No doubt you will have solved many moisture problems, can you explain what your days look like exactly?
In the morning I am always up early and soon I am in my car. Then I drive to me first client. When I arrive at my customer's house, I let the customers tell me as much as possible so that I have a complete picture of the situation. Then I take technical measurements with a moisture meter. Once I have all the information I make an offer to solve the problem. After a full day of visiting customers, I come home around 6 p.m. to have dinner with my family. After dinner, I open the laptop to follow up on the latest e-mails and around 11 p.m. I finish my day so that I can hit the road the next day.
Those are long days, if you visit clients daily you probably encounter bizarre situations from time to time. What's the most special situation you've encountered?
The funniest thing I've already experienced, which was actually my own stupid fault, was putting my bones on to step into a basement and feeling the water from the basement rushing into my bones because the water was so high. And then I had to go to the next customer with wet feet.
That's quite a story, were you able to help those people in the end?
Yes, from the basement that was flooded to above my bones we were able to make a dry basement with DryPlan. Those were very satisfied customers.
That's good news. And what do you do in your free time, on the days you don't work?
In my free time, I primarily spend a lot of time with my family, being my wife and my son. Exactly what we do in that free time can vary from shopping, going to watch my son's soccer to going on weekends. I also enjoy playing padel and smoking meat on the barbecue. Now that summer is coming, I also spend every Saturday working in the garden.
To conclude, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Within 5 years, I obviously still see me at DryPlan because I truly believe in the products we offer and the service we provide. Within 5 years I hope to be the consultant who can help the most people.
That's a great ambition. Thanks for this interview Sander, and good luck in your future career!
